On campus Engineers without Borders works to raise awareness of the various humanitarian crisis’s around the world while promoting the need for sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions. In the past EWB has, in conjunction with other on-campus organizations, helped bring Earth Hour, a global social movement to raise encourage our local politicians to take action against climate change to campus, and has sponsored several discussions including “Collective Concern” a forum that brought together professors from a wide range of academic departments to discuss our worlds pressing environmental issues, “Greener Lehigh”, a discussion with Lehigh’s own Facilities, Transportation, and Dining Services representatives aiming to open up the lines of communication between students and administration in hopes of making Lehigh a greener campus.
Another more specific project is the Campus Hydro Project. They are working on implementing a turbine and placing it under a stream flowing down our Lehigh mountain. This turbine will generate energy to be used as an engineering learning tool.
